A well-developed and clearly signposted network of cycling paths wends its way alongside streams and through the beautiful Lungau countryside. This mountain biking paradise unique in the Alpine world boasts 15 captivating routes spanning 560 kilometers, with challenging elevation gains certain to excite biking enthusiasts.
A special tip for families and leisure cyclists is the Mitterberg Tour: it involves approximately 200 meters in elevation gain, a maximum gradient of 12%, about 30 kilometers in length, with the precise starting point based on where you are staying.

At the Lungau Golf Club in St. Michael, you can play golf at the highest level, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The airfield in Mauterndorf is actually the highest in the Austrian Alps and a gathering place for glider pilots from all over the world. Thanks to its unique location in the Lungau basin, the airfield enjoys long periods of thermal activity and influxes of foehn systems.
Glider flights are possible from April well into October, just so long as the airfield is snow-free. Winches and aerotows are available as launch methods for glider flights. A truly special experience for guests: glider flights and scenic aerial tours aboard motorized aircraft, high above the Alps.
Taurachbahn Railway
Austria's highest narrow-gauge railway is a popular attraction in the region. Special excursions are offered by reservation from June to September. Nostalgic steam or diesel trains can also be rented exclusively for company outings, club trips, or wedding parties.
